Let's Talk About: Theme Park Essential - What to bring + tips

8:01:00 AM

Working as a cast member in one of the biggest and famous theme parks in the world, I am allowed to see a lot of guests’ behavior during their visit to the park. One of the behaviors is what they bring and wear to the park. So in this post, I will give you my insight about what to bring and wear to make your visit to the park more comfortable. Let’s start!

1.  The most essential thing to bring along is definitely the TICKET. It’s obvious that you cannot enter the park without the ticket. You can buy the ticket in the ticket booth at the park entrance, but me personally, I prefer to buy the ticket in advance through online booking and print the ticket at home. Sometimes online booking gives you a good deal better than the ticket booth. Sometimes, it can give you a few dollars off, and it’s really worthy. Everyone knows that the price for the theme park ticket can go crazy. Having a few dollars off (I got $20 off by buying online) is definitely has to be done.

2.  MONEY/DEBIT CARD/CREDIT CARD is the next thing you need to bring. You can bring either one, or all of them. You don’t need to bring the wallet along with you. You can just take out some money and the cards and put it inside your bag (usually the bag has the pocket for the cards). Oh, and of course, your ID CARD. Get a few drinks in the hot summer day will be a little reward for yourself.

3.   I know people cannot live and leave without this anymore, but let me remind you again that PHONE is also important to bring. Not only because it’s necessary when an emergency occurs, but nowadays people are using smartphones, so it can be your personal camera too. Since you will be using your phone quite a lot, so the battery level needs to be maintained. Don’t forget to bring along the PHONE CHARGER. I suggest that you also bring the portable one so you don’t have to be worry and confuse where to find the plug around the park since the park will be really big and not every corner has a plug (that works). So yeah, buy yourself a portable charger. It’s really useful.

4.   Since right now is summertime, so the sun will be playing a lot outside with you and sometimes (most of the time actually), it’s gonna brighter your day, literally, in a way that more than you imagine. So, protect your eye, face, and the whole body with SUNGLASSES, HAT, and SUNBLOCK. Now, they have a spray sunblock. I’ve seen people sprayed themselves all around the park. But I dunno why, I always prefer the old school style where you have to put the cream to your body (especially the face) by spreading it with your hand rather than spraying it. I’ve seen some kids (and even adults) were irritated because when their mother sprayed the sunblock, it went to the eyes and the mouth too. I know that you’re supposed to close both eyes and mouth during the spraying, but after you finish spray, you still can feel it coz it’s all over the face. Sometimes the parents just spraying their kids without a warning, so the kids are not ready yet. It’s so funny to see the kids’ faces and how they get angry because of that. So yeah, I love the old school way where you can just put the cream in the concentrated area. And I’m not really sure if the spray one really works well like the regular one. But yeah, either way, you have to protect your body from the cruel sun.

5.   Bring the UMBRELLA or RAIN PONCHO before it’s really raining. You never know when the rain’s gonna hit your time in the park. Summer can be so hot, so the probability to have rain shower during the summertime also high (especially in Florida). Not only for the rain, the umbrella also can help you to block the sun rays. The rain poncho can help you to keep yourself dry if you plan to go to the wet ride.

6.   I think everyone also knows that the price of the F&B inside the park can be ridiculously expensive. They know how to make money out of food. So if you are the people who don’t want to spend a lot of money on something you eat, why don’t you BYOF – Bring Your Own FOOD. Some simple sandwiches good for keep yourself stuffed. Now, we have a lot of snack bars too. It’s good if you need something quick to ease the hunger. When you’re traveling with the kids, make sure they also got what they need. Some candy, chips, or veggies will be good too to snack.

7.   Not only you need to eat, but you also need to drink. A lot. Especially in these hot days. And to buy the bottled drink all the time can be a pain in the butt too. If every single time you bought the drink, your money will be gone soon. So why don’t you bring your own WATER BOTTLE? You can fill it at home first and during your time at the park, you can fill it with the water from the water fountain around the park. Well, not all park in the world has the best taste of water (some not even have a water fountain or an edible tap water). If that’s the case, then you have to make sure you buy the big size of bottled water. It’s way cheaper than buying a lot of small ones. But yeah, it’s gonna make your bag heavier. So plan wisely.

8.   Though you already have your phone works as the camera, but maybe you still feel like it’s not gonna help you make a good picture, so bring the real CAMERA with you. I suggest that you bring a pocket camera so it won’t take too much space in your bag. I’ve seen some guests with the big DSLR camera with the big lens too. I always thought that they were a photographer who needed to work during their holiday too. Haha. If you travel with your kids, it’s gonna be a good idea to have them their own camera too. I love to see whenever the parents give the kids their own camera so the kids can also take pictures on their own. It can make them busy and it’s gonna be a good bonding time, especially when the parents also love taking pictures.

9.   Sweat, wet ride, rain, those can make your clothes wet and become uncomfortable to wear. If you are the type of person who doesn’t like to wear wet clothes, then you should bring the CHANGE CLOTHES. But if you don’t mind with the wet clothes, then just let them dry by themselves under the sun. Don’t forget to bring a few extra pairs of socks too.

10. Some little accidents can happen to yourself or your family member during a good time. Maybe some little scratch here and there, or some headache or stomach ache. You never know when it’s gonna get you. So probably a small FIRST-AID box is a good choice to bring along. Some parks have the first aid location but it’s just too far to reach within an immediate minute. So have yourself some band-aid or some med within the reach is a good thing. You don’t have to walk all the way to the other side of the park just to get them, right?

Those are the things that I think essentials to bring. Number 1 to number 5, you can actually bring them all inside a small bag or even a fanny pack, so you will be freer to move around here and there without worrying about carrying a heavy bag. Number 6 to number 10, for me personally, they’re kinda like optional things to bring. It all depends on what type of person are you. Me, I like to travel light and don’t wanna be bothered by my carrying. So most of the time I just came to the park with a fanny pack. But some other time, especially when I don’t have enuff money to buy food and drink around the park, I will cook and bring that as my lunch and bring some more snacks too. And also a water bottle. I put everything in my backpack. I rarely bring my camera. I pretty much always use my phone as my camera. Sometimes, I don’t even bother to take a picture because I’m enjoying my time so much I forget to take pictures. I always prepare some band-aid in my bag. Just dump a few pieces there. And I don’t care about wet clothes. I’m just gonna let them dry by themselves. Here in Florida, it’s really easy and quick to get dry clothes after a wet ride. The sun is just like your own personal portable dryer. Haha.
TIPS:
  •          I suggest you not to wear covered shoes (sport shoes/sneakers) with socks whenever you know that you’re gonna go and try the wet ride that day. Wear the sport sandal. Not only you don’t have to be bothered by your wet footwear, but they don’t break easily, not like flipflops or any regular sandal. It still gives you a good support too. Trust me, wearing socks and shoes when they’re wet is really really really uncomfortable. The regular sandal can also bother your time, especially when you are riding the big ride where they’re not allowing a loose article to be on the ride. A lot of cases where the guest cannot hold on to their sandal and the sandal fly away from the feet, successfully land on the other side of the ride. It means that you have to take off your sandal and put it away in the temporary locker first before you sit on the ride. It takes time. While using a sport sandal, you don’t have to worry about it. It’s gonna stay on your feet no matter what. Haha.
  •          In some parks, they now have a new regulation to ban a selfie stick or any extension stick for the camera from the park. They’re not even allowing the stick to enter the park. The guest has to give it to the Guest Relation to keep for the day or if they don’t want to, they can just leave the park. You don’t want that to happen to you too, right? So yeah, just leave the selfie stick at home. If the park still allowed you to bring the stick, YOU BETTER NOT USING IT DURING THE RIDE. It’s dangerous. I know that you wanna create a good picture for a good moment, but hey, safety comes first.
  •         Try as much as you can to bring everything you need inside one fanny pack or backpack (if you’re traveling with the kids, this will be a different case). You don’t want to be bothered by your bag. Try the (sometimes free) locker facility in the park.
  •          A lot of guests I’ve seen, they’re traveling with their little ones, and sometimes even way too little. I always think that whenever you go to the theme park, it means everyone in your group can have a good time together. I personally don’t like to see the baby around the park. The baby who doesn’t even understand what’s going on around them yet. They’re just too small. So whenever I see the parents, they’re quite struggling to decide what ride to go and see or who’s gonna be with the baby first. And what if the baby doesn’t want to stay away from one of the parents even just for a minute (e.g. the mom) while the mom actually wanna go on the ride? And the dad will not be wanted anymore because all the baby wants is their mom. The baby cries, parents got stressed (sometimes lead to a little fight). It’s just a mess. Trust me, I’ve seen that scene many times and it’s not a good scene. So why don’t you plan your travel first? You know the consequences when you bring your children. And you’re the one who knows your kids better (know the age, know the height, know the habit). So plan accordingly. Who’s gonna go with the kid first, who’s gonna stay, who’s gonna go with the certain kid – if the kid has their own preference to go with whom, what ride that suitable for the kids and whatnot. You know that a lot of rides have their own height requirement and it varies depending on the ride – not all the ride has the same requirement. When your kids are waaaay too small, just don’t go to the park. Stay at home. The park is loud, busy, hot and it’s not a good environment for the baby and you cannot even enjoy the time there just because of you busy with the baby. Everyone in the group should have a fun and good time. Remember that.
  •          If you’re traveling with bigger kids, make sure your kid brings their own bag. Don’t just let one person carry all the stuff. Divide the things. Who’s carrying what. And make sure the person who brings a certain stuff is the person who responsible if it’s lost, so everyone gets their own portion. Maybe this sounds harsh, but I think this is better than let one person keep complain about how heavy the bag is. If everyone got their own responsibility, no one will complain that much, because they know that everyone carries their own responsibility. Everyone will be happy. No more unnecessary fight.
  •          Please, ladies, I know that you still wanna look good even when you’re going to a theme park, but that doesn’t mean that you’re wearing heels and a cute dress to the park. Why do you have to torture yourself? Why? Wear the most comfortable clothes you have that is not making you hard to move around or giving you some pain (not only in the butt but everywhere). But, hey, if those are your most comfortable clothes, more power to you. Good luck with that.
So I think that's what comes on my mind right now. Hope it can help you during your holiday time in the theme park. Enjoy!
